Bitdefender Total Security
Consistently top-scoring malware detection with almost no performance hit, across every device you own.
Overview
How It Works
Total Security layers several independent detection methods so a threat that slips past one is usually caught by another, and most of the heavy scanning happens off-device.
Cloud-offloaded scanning
File signatures are checked against Bitdefender's cloud threat database rather than a large local definitions file, which is why full scans have a smaller CPU/RAM footprint than most competitors.
Behavioral detection (Advanced Threat Defense)
Running processes are monitored for suspicious behavior patterns — not just known malware signatures — so it can flag brand-new (zero-day) threats that don't match anything in a database yet.
Auto Sandbox
Files that look suspicious but aren't confirmed malicious get executed in an isolated sandbox first, so anything harmful never touches the real filesystem.
Ransomware remediation
Protected folders are monitored for the rapid mass-file-encryption pattern ransomware produces; if it's detected, affected files are automatically restored from a local backup made just before the attack.
Bitdefender Central
A web and mobile console for managing every protected device on the plan remotely — running scans, checking status, and reinstalling protection on a device without sitting down at it.
Key Features
Multi-layered ransomware protection
Behavior monitoring plus automatic file recovery if encryption is detected — not just after-the-fact removal.
Web attack & phishing prevention
Blocks malicious and fraudulent sites at the browser level before they load, including fake login pages.
Firewall & Wi-Fi Security Advisor
A two-way firewall plus scanning of the network you're connected to for known router vulnerabilities and weak encryption.
Webcam & microphone protection
Blocks unauthorized application access to the camera and mic, with an alert when something tries.
Limited VPN included
200 MB of encrypted VPN traffic per device per day at this tier — enough for checking email on public Wi-Fi, not for streaming; Premium Security removes the cap.
Password manager
Cross-device password storage and autofill, included at no extra cost at this tier.
Parental controls
Content filtering, screen-time limits, and app blocking, manageable remotely through Bitdefender Central.
